New category proposal: Phaidra Showcase

Hi @all,

We (Phaidra at Padua) have reviewed the current forum categories, and they seem both appropriate and comprehensive.

The only addition we’d suggest is a Phaidra Showcase category, where users could share and highlight collections, virtual exhibitions, digitisation projects, digital editions, and other initiatives linked to the Phaidra repositories.

What do you think? Would this be a useful addition?

Hey! Thanks for checking out the platform and the categories. That is greatly appreciated. From my perspective, that is a great idea. We can also link back from the showcases to the website.

I wonder what @Narloth , @raman and @davegson think of that idea?

Also, @gianluca.drago speaking of showcases. What showcasesdo you have in mind? You actually did an online exhibition, right?

The aim is to provide a space for individuals to showcase how they use Phaidra—a space that serves both as a means of promoting their own projects and as a valuable example for others. This may include for instance significant or innovative digitisation projects resulting in a Phaidra collection, projects that utilise Phaidra documents for teaching, research, or knowledge transfer, or even virtual exhibitions built around Phaidra collections.

In recent years, we have created several virtual exhibitions, some of which are directly linked to Phaidra collections. You can find a full list on this page (please note that some exhibitions are available only in Italian): University of Padova, The University Library System, Virtual Exhibitions

A few highlights centred around Phaidra collections include:

Giovanni Marsili – The Library of the Prefect of Padova’s Botanical Garden

The Botanical Illustration – Illustrated Books from the Library of the Botanical Garden of the University of Padova

Phaidra, the Photographic Collections – Key Actors and Techniques in the History of Photography

The Beauty of Biodiversity – Wallcharts from the Department of Biology at the University of Padova

I like the idea, and some showcases could then become a basis for showcases we might want to feature on the website - I think @Rory talked about this a couple of times in the past

Yes, I also love this - I spoke with Rasta last month to get some backround/ideas for the best places to start.

I will be interviewing Landesbibliothek Vorarlberg end of this month.
Want to speak with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) but haven’t had any response so far from a couple of mails.

@gianluca.drago these exhibitions are stunning - so impressive - Any chance I could talk with someone about Padua to get some background and put a short accompany story together?

Thank you, @Rory! You can reach out to @Linda Cappellato—she’s the go-to person for virtual exhibitions here at Padua Uni (along with me!).

Exactly what I was thinking! Great!

So, I created the PHAIDRA Showcases category. If we do something there, we must not only have just a link, but also a description and some background. @gianluca.drago can we do a short one on one of the links you suggested or do you have another idea how to approach this?

Sure, there shouldn’t just be a link, but also a content description and maybe even an image to encourage people to visit the resource.

As for presenting one of the virtual exhibitions of the University of Padua, of course, it can be done, but I see this category as more focused on new projects rather than those that were completed a long time ago.

Let’s do some older cases too. If we need to wait for ‘new’ cases, it might be empty for some time to come.
