Post Phaidra releases in the community

Hi!

what about posting the Phadra github releases announcements here in the community?

I think that is a great idea and helps get some more exposure for the community. Can you check if there is some kind of mechanism to automatically post to Discourse? (I am still on holiday … )

Hmm… It seems that there are bots which can be enabled in Discourse [1].

Also, Matterbridge [2] mentions Discourse but points to “Matterbabble” [3] which seems to be a bridge that talks with Matterbridge to relay messages somewhere else. We use Matterbridge to let our bot (penny) send messages into the phaidra-developers channel on Mattermost. Penny only talks to XMPP and IRC, that’s why Metterbridge is needed.

The question is, where and how would the message be generated or triggered?

You can do an announce manually for now. A brief summary is enough I think. You can generate it from the changelog and then adapt the text for the community.

Yes I think we even discussed this on our last call. I can do that manually for now. I’ll wait a bit now though because v3.3.0 will probably be hotfixed in the coming weeks.

Is this still something we want to do? I think it is a cool idea. Do we set up a separate category for that?

I’d say yes and yes, but I’m still fixing 3.3.

Just as an example, here how the Plone community does this kind of announcements:

That looks good. I think we aimed at doing it in an automated way?

Not necessarily. Just wrap up a template. This:

is ok to resume changes, maybe just add who made the change to the community knows who to ping.

Yeah, for sure! I would also go for making it a bit more readable. Mainly that is an abbreviation thing, I guess, but it would not hurt to explain or give a bit of context.
